Double healing power: nationally recognized mineral spring + natural salt

Our natural salt originates from the primordial ocean and was held deep below ground in the mountains of the Salzkammergut during the formation of the Alps around 150 to 200 million years ago. There, it was protected from any external environmental influences until now.

    • The mineral water in the new pool is continuously mixed with six tons of natural salt.
    • The natural salt has a purity level of 99.8%.
    • The dissolved salt can have healing properties especially for stressed skin.
    • The combination of sulphurous thermal mineral water and natural salt promotes detoxification.
    • The salt increases buoyancy in the water and therefore allows new, low-impact movements.
    • Breathing in the humidity from the salty water can have a healing effect on the air passages.
    • The salt is non-iodised and, assuch, less aggressive.
    • The water is even milder since the dissolved salt means that less chlorine is needed.
    • Integrated water jets can also relieve tension and are good for the lymph nodes.

The Johannesbad Therme in Bad Füssing await with a new attraction for your health: Since July 1st 2017, the pool area has asalt water rock lagoon. Where guests previously relaxed in the volcanic pool, now a combination of natural salt and sulphur fill the pool. “The conversion of the volcanic bath provides even more health benefits to our guests”, explains Ernst Kaser, Manager at Johannesbad Therme. Health benefits for the skin, air passages and joints stem from the combination of sulphuric gas and naturally pure non-ionised rock salt from the Salzkammergut region of Austria.

    Sea effect in Bad Füssing

The salt content increases buoyancy of the body in the water - similar to the effects of bathing in the sea. “Specifically, patients and guests with restricted mobility benefit greatly from this effect,”says Professor Astrid Krückhans, Chief Physician and Medical Director at Johannesbad Specialist Clinic Bad Füssing. The buoyancy in the water enables natural movements that are gentle on the joints. Furthermore, salt and sulphur develop a healing effect, specifically for stressed skin. They disinfect and create almost a kind of peeling effect. Breathing in the steam from the water is also good for the air passages. “The salt water lagoon brings the positive effects of the sea to Bad Füssing”, explains Ernst Kaser, Manager at Johannesbad Therme. Furthermore, the massage nozzles of the integrated floor and wall jets are beneficial to thelymph nodes, have a vitalising effect on the entire body, relieve tension and can promote detoxification.

    New technology

Johannesbad Group invested in new technology to convert the volcanic bath into the new salt-water rock lagoon. The pipes are now plastic, rather than metal as they previously were. “This prevents corrosion, since the salt would have had an impact on the metal pipes,”explains Ernst Kaser. Furthermore, new filter systems and new control technology were installed to ensure that the correct amount of salt is added to the water. Six tons of white gold enrich the water in the rock lagoon and create a salinity level comparable to that of the Mediterranean.

    Regeneration with balneotherapy

Guests and patients have been relaxing at Johannesbad Therme for more than 50 years. Thermal water is carried from adepth of 1,000 metres into the pools of one of Europe’s largest thermal baths. The warm water from the state-approved Johannes spring, first tapped by doctors Angelika and Eduard Zwick in 1964, spreads its healing and pain-relievingeffect across a water surface area of about 4,500 sqm. “Balneotherapy at Johannesbad Therme is particularly effective for illnesses of the locomotor system, rheumatism and joints, as well as spinal disorders, paralysis, cardiovascular and circulation problems and metabolic diseases,” explains Professor Astrid Krückhans.“Furthermore, patients are treated after surgery and this can be an excellent way to train and regenerate muscles.”The healing effect stems from the precious elements in the spring water: Sulphur, sodium, hydrocarbonate and chloride are absorbed easily into the skin during bathing. Furthermore, the 13 different pools, with water temperatures ranging from 27 to 39 degrees, supports gentle movement. “In particular, this aids the therapies available at the Johannesbad Specialist Clinic for joint diseases,” says the orthopaedist.

    Pure health

Johannesbad Therme is a year-round attraction in the Lower Bavarian town of Bad Füssing and includes the adjoining Johannesbad Specialist Clinic, a large sauna area, a modern Medical Fitness Centre and a thermal wave pool, as well as an outside area of 60,000 sqm.
